Pet Socialization Program
Help keep the HSSEMO pets happy and healthy by giving them the individual attention they need. Take a dog for a walk, give them a good bath, or hold a kitty in your arms and make them purr!

VOLUNTEERING DAYS & HOURS
The Pet Socialization Program is open for volunteers from 12-4pm Monday through Saturday, and from 1:00-3:00pm
on Sundays. Volunteering Monday through Saturday runs in two shifts:
Shift #1: 12-2pm
Shift #2: 2-4pm
Volunteering on Sunday offers only one shift:
Shift #1: 1-3pm

POSITION: Pet Socializer: Dog Walker/Cat Socializer ENTRY
Ages: 16 & up*

Location: On-Site 
Requirements: Basic pet care and behavior knowledge
Time Commitment: None. Volunteers come when they can during volunteer hours. This is a great program for those with busy or unpredictable school and/or work schedules.
Description: Gives dogs a break from the kennels to go outside for a potty break, playtime and long walk. This position also plays with, gives treats and affection to the cats. This position is vital to keeping the animals happy and healthy.

POSITION: Dog Bather ENTRY
Ages: 16 & up*
Location: On-Site    
Requirements: Basic pet care and behavior knowledge
Time Commitment: None. Volunteers come when they can during volunteer hours. This is a great program for those with busy or unpredictable school and/or work schedules.
Description: Bathes and grooms dogs who need such extra special attention. This position is vital to keeping animals happy and healthy.
*Dog Bathing is only available during Shift #2: 2-4pm (on warm days, 2-3pm on cooler days. 3-4pm is still open for brushing and grooming on cooler days), Mondays through Saturdays.

Humane Education Program
This program is for dynamic individuals who have a flare for teaching. Education is the most powerful gift you can give. This program helps the HSSEMO teach the community how to help reduce the number of unwanted pets, how to be safe around animals and all about the animal welfare movement’s history and current issues.

POSITION: Humane Educator ADVANCED
Ages: 18 & up
Location: Off-Site and/or On-Site 
Requirements: Youth (K-8) teaching experience and/or understanding
Time Commitment: Approx. 2-4 hours per month
Description: Goes to local schools, groups and clubs, educating the community regarding responsible pet care and the animal welfare movement.

POSITION: Shelter Tour Guide ADVANCED
Ages: 18 & up
Location: On-Site   
Requirements; Public speaking experience
Time Commitment: Approx. 2-4 hours per month
Description: Guides groups through the shelter, educating them regarding what the shelter does, how it works and why.

Photography Program
This program allows for those in the community who have an appreciation for photography to use their special skills. Volunteers take pictures of pets up for adoption and of what goes on at HSSEMO events and off-site programs for our website, advertisements and pamphlets. 

VOLUNTEERING DAYS & HOURS
The Pet Photographer, Pet Photography Assistant and Pet Portal  positions are available for volunteers from 11-4pm on Mondayor Friday. Pet Photography volunteers will be placed into teams of (3 ) three, one pet photographer, one pet photography assistant and one Pet Adoption Portal Manager.


POSITION: Pet Photographer ENTRY
Ages: 18 & up
Location: On-Site   
Requirements: Basic photography knowledge, patience
Time Commitment: 1 shift (2 hours) every week
Description: Takes pictures of HSSEMO pets up for adoption for the website and to be used in future HSSEMO publications.

POSITION: Pet Photographer Assistant ENTRY
Ages: 16 & up
Location: On-Site   
Requirements: Basic pet care and behavior knowledge, patience
Time Commitment:  1 shift (2 hours) every  week
Description: Helps the Pet Photographer take pictures of HSSEMO pets up for adoption for our website and other applications.

POSITION: Pet Adoption Portal Manager ENTRY
Ages: 18 & up
Location: On-Site       
Requirements: Basic computer & internet knowledge and ability
Time Commitment: 1 shift (2 hours) every  week
Description: Places all picture files where they need to go- whether on the computers at the shelter for further use, or on our Pet Adoption Portal with the
pet’s information to help our pets get adopted!

Pet Mobile Adoptions Program
Pet Mobile Adoptions are an opportunity for the HSSEMO to show off their great pets for adoption! This program is a great service for those in the community who have a hard time visiting the shelter, but still would like to adopt from the shelter. Pet Mobile Adoptions also provide a wonderful avenue to speak with the public to answer questions, as well as provide the HSSEMO with a chance to educate the community regarding responsible pet care.

VOLUNTEERING DAYS & TIMES
Pet Mobile Adoptions are held on Saturday afternoons, generally from 12 - 3 pm.

POSITION: Adoption Counselor
Volunteers needed per mobile: 2
Ages: 18 & up        
Location: Off-Site      
Requirements:Outgoing and friendly personality
Time Commitment: 1 Pet Mobile Adoption per month, at 3 hours per Mobile (during the course of 1 day)
Description: Talks to potential adopters regarding adopting a pet.

POSITION: Animal Assistant
Volunteers needed per mobile: 2-4
Ages: 16 & up*
       
Location: Off-Site   
Requirements: Basic animal care knowledge
Time Commitment:  1 Pet Mobile Adoption per seasonal quarter, at 4 hours per Pet Mobile Adoption, generally 12:00 - 3:30pm
Description: Helps with set-up and tear down. Provides potty breaks, fresh water and treats to the animals in the spotlight at Pet Mobiles Adoptions. Also informs the public regarding each animal’s individual information in their care.

Publications Program
The Publications Program is great for those with previous publication skills, or those seeking experience in those areas. The HSSEMO has several publications that go out each year, of which volunteers get to choose which publications to work on. Helping to ensure that HSSEMO has clean, professional documents supports the much needed professional image that greatly helps further the animal welfare cause in the Heartland.

POSITION: Publications Editor ENTRY
Ages:18 & up
Location: Off-Site     
Requirements: Editing experience or higher level grammatical skills
Time Commitments: No more than 5 hours per publication, volunteers choose publications to work on
Description: Edits publications to ensure clean & professional documents.
